Glen Ames School Council Speaker Series – Monday, May 30th
Glen Ames School Council Speaker Series presents:
‘Big-Picture Parenting,’ featuring author/parenting expert Ann Douglas
Monday, May 30
Glen Ames cafeteria
Do you sometimes feel that you get sidetracked by the day-to-day frustrations of parenting? Do you ever wish you could focus more on your long-term parenting goals?
Big-picture parenting means thinking about the type of relationship you want to have with your child over the long-term, and making conscious and deliberate parenting choices - as opposed to reacting in the moment in a way that might not support your goals for your relationship with your child. In this thought-provoking presentation, parenting author Ann Douglas discusses the advantages of taking a big-picture approach (parenting with your hopes and dreams for your children and your family in mind).
Ann will discuss the importance of tuning into your child’s needs, being mindful of your parenting decisions, building relationships with other parents, and practicing self-care. Her presentation taps into a lot of the research about mindfulness and how mindfulness can be applied to parenting. Expect a compelling mix of practical advice and lively anecdotes from this popular and engaging speaker.

Please note that there is a School Council Meeting this Monday, April 29th at 6:30 p.m. in the Cafeteria.

The Legacy positive spaces video contest begins next week! Students in grade 8 are challenged to make short videos and have their say on bullying and positive spaces. They will present their videos for their class in late May and the top videos from each class will be featured in our Legacy assembly on June 17th. This is a great opportunity for students to win amazing prizes and help make their school the best it can be!

REMINDER NOT TO BRING VALUABLES TO SCHOOL
This is an added reminder to all students that their valuables should be kept at home. Students are responsible for their cell phones and any other valuables brought to school. If they are taken to school, students are reminded to secure these items. Students who stay at school during the lunch period are also encouraged to leave their backpacks in their lockers. Glen Ames School assumes no responsibility for lost and or stolen items when they are brought to school by students.
